What the Funk Are…

Ayurvedic Traditions

Ayurveda is considered the sister science of yoga! Ayurvedic wisdom of medicinal/self-care practices are focused on balancing the mind, body, and energy through movement, herbal diet inclusions and remedies, massage, and meditation.

These traditional practices are based upon beliefs that all is connected, meaning balance will support health in three key areas of living, reflected by the four elements, and regarded as The Doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

Traditional Chinese Medicine: Gua Sha

Gua sha is a traditional Chinese technique developed to treat conditions that were believed to derive from stagnant energy, or “sha.” This ancient medicinal wisdom believed health was sourced from “chi,” or the free flow of energy through the body. Gua Sha was utilized to remedy, or clear, “sha” blocks so that “chi” could flow again.

Studies show that when done correctly, gua sha can release chemicals that improve circulation, reduce pain, remove toxins, and promote healing. You may also notice that the lymphatic drainage eases chronic pain, swelling, migraines, and fatigue.

Though traditionally done with a stone, we’ll teach you how to use your hands to incorporate this practice in your daily routines, rituals, and restoration!
